WHY FEMALES ARE MORE AT RISK:
Part Two by Lewkovich, DC

Biomechanical research shows injured females are more likely than males to suffer chronic symptoms. Those factors include:
  1. Increased sheering motion in lower cervical spine facets: Females suffer more than twice the facet shearing motion in the lower neck than males.
  2. Less Protective Cartilage
  3. Estrogen levels: The quantity and quality of collagen production can be significantly reduced by the presence of estrogen. Collagen reinforces capsular ligaments of the cervical spine.
  4. Head turned a moment of impact. One report finds that more females’ heads are rotated at the moment of impact nearly 12% more than males.

COMPACT CARS HAVE HIGH FATALITY RATE, NHTSA U.S. AGENCY REPORTS.

Drivers who love compact cars as gas prices rise do so at a cost. The government claims they have the highest fatality rates.

Compacts death rate is 17.76 per 100,000 vehicles in 2004. Compact pickup trucks are 16.87 and subcompact vehicles are 16.95 according to a report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Admn. Large vans have the lowest rate at 9.34.

“You can never repeal the laws of physics, and a smaller, lighter vehicle is always at a disadvantage no matter how many safety features are built into it.” States Russ Radar, a spokesman for the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety. WSJ

STATE BAR TAKING
OVER FAKE LAW FIRMS

For decades the Bar was powerless to do anything about the crooks who pretend to be attorneys. The Bar can only discipline licensed attorneys. A new law effective this January 1, gives the Bar the power to close down phony law firms.

On January 9th, the Bar began by closing down the Alhambra offices of Jeffrey Yang. Although he isn’t an attorney he still handles personal injury cases anyway. Bar investigators seized computers and files and took control of Yang’s ‘practice’.

Yang made regular payments to Garden Grove attorney Arthur Cooper to use Cooper’s license to file and settle cases. Ads placed in Chinese language newspapers featured pictures of Yang and Cooper.

AUTO VS. TRUCK: SIDESWIPE

A Sacramento jury showed little mercy last November. Gabriela 21, her sister Sofia 18. and their cousins Monte 10, and Juanita 7, were traveling on the interstate when all cars slowed down. Defendant SUV swerved and sideswiped Salas’ truck. The defense even admitted liability

Plaintiffs’ chiropractic bills were over $14,000:Gabriela at $5023, Sofia $3677, Monte $2996 and little Juanita at $2635.The jury gave a total of $3600.

Defense chiropractor Susan Bromley DC must have had a field day arguing that the care for minors was exaggerated and unneeded. Aggressive care for young women 21 and 18 was unsupportable. The jury clearly agreed. Salas vs. Orosa Nov 8 2005 Sacramento Superior # 02AS05556

PRACTICE TIP
Unless the accident is one of the Big Three: rear-ender, left turn or red light, the biomechanics are very difficult to prove.
