Med Pay
is the heart of a healthy PI Practice…What to do when you face
the three D’s.
The Delay. Many insurance
companies work from the law or averages. Merely, delaying payment
30 days will effect a natural drop of demanding claims. It makes
sense, doctors are busy, staff changes and your records get
misplaced. If a carrier knows they owe $5,000,000 a month, and by
delaying payment, they can save 10% from claim fatigue. It’s a
good deal for the dishonest. Stay vigilant.
The Discount. Nearly all
carriers play this game. Routinely your bills are sent to a “bill
review” company. Generally, that’s nothing more than a group of
underpaid staffers arbitrarily cutting your fees. You receive a
print out with your “adjusted” fee and a check. This is bogus.
Just cash the check, write on the check that there is still a
balance and this is”NOT payment in full”. Continue collection.
The Denial: Fairly rare, is
the all out denial because the carrier disputes your profession.
The CCA carefully follows denials and all such must be reported
to them and to us. California follows the rule that chiropractors
have equality of benefits with MD’s when charging fees to
insurance companies.
We believe the successful doctor will not
“compromise” with his or her honest billing practices. Remember
the carrier “counts” on the lazy 10% for extra profits.

Big Winner : Dr. Ben Morovati DC
Two accidents same chiropractor
A husband and wife, each 31 years, were rear-ended
two times within 8 months.
Both cases were consolidated into one arbitration. The Mrs.
claimed aggravation of preexisting accident, back and neck
complaints and depression.
The Mrs. also claimed aggravation from the 2nd accident. She
had a positive MRI, saw an orthopedist and received psychological
counseling.
Defendants claimed the Mrs. had excessive medical expenses of
$30,000 for both accidents and her treatment was excessive. Mr.
claimed a combined care of $3,900.
Defense hired two orthos, a psychologist and a psychiatrist to
testify against chiropractor Morovati and a psychologist.
The arbitrator awarded the family $249,328.
