Paul S. Gregory, D.C. (President, Orange County
Chiropractic Society) attended the Board of Directors in place of our
elected director George Burdi, DC. Who could not be present
Greetings fellow Orange County Chiropractors;
On February 9th I had the pleasure of attending the statewide Board of
Directors meeting which was held the day before the Chiropractic State
Convention. This was my first experience being a part of the group of
elected officers and Board members who determine the direction and
policy’s that affect how Chiropractic is practiced in the state of
California. There was a group of about 30 doctors who represent each
different district and the elected state officers. The entire proceeding
was very impressive in its professionalism and formality. The level of
dedication to the cause of Chiropractic would make DD Palmer proud. I also
felt really good to be there with these volunteers who were giving of
their time and energy to help save and protect Chiropractic for the
present and future. The CCA continues to be the largest and best-funded
Chiropractic organization. There were a lot of interesting topics
presented with some great debates and new resolutions being inacted. Here
is a short list of some of the issues
-
A new method of selecting candidates for the elected
positions, changes to the nomination committee to affect a stronger
criteria regarding leadership skills.
-
Discussions regarding creation of a better grassroots
training program to increase our presence to statewide elections.
-
Interventions to prevent acupuncturists, naturopaths
and physical therapist from infringing on our scope of practice rights.
-
Statewide education programs to ALERT Chiropractors to
the new Medicare audits and documentation rules, regulations, and the
severe penalties for non-compliance. Even the threat of the federal
removal of Chiropractic from the Medicare program, Chiropractic audits
revealed a 70% error rate in our claims submissions, WOW
-
Discussions regarding whether we should use our
members dues dollars to defend Chiropractors who perform dubious
manipulations under anesthesia. The offending doctors of Chiropractic are
not CCA members and whose reprehensible overcharging/over-utilization
severely compromised our recent worker’s compensation position.
-
The landmark decision to join with our brother
organization The International Chiropractic Association of California in
co-sponsoring new Worker’s Comp. Legislation designed to remove some of
the burdensome regulations recently inacted YEAH
-
Sad news, new graduates are continuing to find that
the business of Chiropractic is increasing difficult to get started.
-
Membership in the organization is not growing at
desired rate to reach our goals.
A new slate of officers for the next CCA term had been
selected and approved. Our local OCCD elections are coming up in May/June
and a call is hereby put out to the OCCD members that important local
positions will need to be staffed by new volunteers. Please contact Dr.
Heller and Dr. Burdi if any of you doctors feel it is time to do your Duty
for The future of Chiropractic.
Declaration: These recollections do not reflect official CCA Board positions
or statements but merely my own personal reflections on the proceedings.
Sincerely;
Paul S. Gregory, D.C.
